The Handeni Gold Project

PMM Mining is a prominent player in the mining sector in Tanzania, with a focus on the on extraction of gold, aggregates and sand. Our gold mine is located in Handeni, Tanga - known as Magambazi Gold Mine whereas the aggregates quarry is located in Pongwe, Tanga. PMM Mining also owns sand quarries in the Coastal Region.

The Magambazi Project is located in the emerging Handeni Gold District in Eastern Tanzania, 180 kilometres northwest of Dar es Salaam and 140 kilometres southwest of the port of Tanga. The project consists of two mining licences (which cover 9.9 square kilometres) and two prospecting licences, for an aggregate total of approximately 91 square kilometres.

An initial mineral resource estimate for Magambazi was announced on May 15, 2012. Using a cut-off grade of 0.5 grams per tonne gold, Magambazi is estimated to contain an indicated mineral resource of 15.2million tonnes grading 1.48grams per tonne gold and containing 721,300 ounces, as well as an inferred mineral resource estimate of 6.7million tonnes grading 1.36grams per tonne gold and containing 292,400 ounces.

Exploration Drilling

  • Gold was discovered by locals in the Magambazi area in 2003
  • Exploration drilling at Magambazi began in 2008
  • Mineral resource drilling was initiated in 2010 on section lines that were spaced 40m apart
  • By April 2012, 471 holes had been drilled for a total of 121,846 metres
  • Findings from approximately 400 holes were used as the basis for the initial mineral resource estimate announced on May 15, 2012
  • In 2021, Magambazi Gold Mines re-conducted resource modelling of 468 existing drillholes, 121,341 metres

Opportunity

Based on a partial exploration made, mine potential was estimated at one million ounces of gold. The potential is yet to be fully exploited and hence the need for more investment.



Investment; US Dollars 12 million has been invested at the mine to date.
